About Catharina-Amalia van Oranje Nassau
Please sign in to see more. My name is Willem Johannes Joop van den Berg-Heesterman. This website is dedicated first of all to the Dutch Royal Family. But also meant to show the ties between the European Houses, and the fact that many of them have one single "Father" namely William the Silent.
Though still in an early stage, and a lot of information still has to be cross checked, you can already find a lot of information about the ancestors of our Royal families of today, their relationships, etc.
In due time I am adding information as well on their lives, including photo's. So far I have uploaded about 85 photo's but with my upgrade this will soon be about 1000!
If you have information, corrections, please let me know at tiggerhans@yahoo.com
Recent updates: the Dutch royal family, especially births, ancestors of Princess Laurentien, the Greek royal family, the House of Stolberg.
Missing photo's, especially of the German royal house, and the younger generations, are most welcome.
ORANJE-NASSAU.
The Royal Family of Oranje-Nassau is actually a family with a strong female line. When we look at who the actual power had through the ages, it is remarkable how many women play an important role!
It all started with Juliana zu Stolberg and Johanna van Polanen. You could easily say that the men dominate, but we will see that this is not strictly true.
Juliana zu Stolberg was ofcourse the mother of William the Silent, with whom the whole story of the Dutch fight for independence and the history of the Royal Family begun. And without Juliana there would have been no William. It is also said that she had a strong (religious) influence on William. She was a strong women, who delivered 11 children. She also supported her son morally and financially in his war against King Philips of Spain.
Johanna van Polanen, was Lady of Breda, and only by marrying her, could Engelbert van Nassau-Dillenburg become part of the Dutch nobility. The former mentioned Juliana zu Stolberg married Willem VIII of Nassau-Dillenburg, a great, grandson of Engelbert. (to be continued)
